So last Thursday was a wonderful night in Milwaukee. Jen Davis was in town and gave a lecture to a full house at the Milwaukee Art Museum. Much of the audience were students which was great to see. After the lecture some of us gathered at Milwaukee's own Nessun Dorma. It was a long night to say the least. Above are Kristen, Tara, Justine, Andy, Kevin, Mel, Megan and Jen
As you can tell by my weak camera skills I was having a great time as well!

I have mentioned Kristina already on this blog, she is the other fellow here at the Hermitage. We have enjoyed each others company and share stories on the beach. We have much in common although we work very differently. I am happy to have met her and look forward to watching her career further explode... (she has a creative capital grant to produce and show wong flew over the cuckoo's nest and just gave a commencement speech at her alma mater UCLA, among many other things...)

Today I received a beautiful gift from Kristina... this hand-made felt turtle. She creates many creatures while watching TV... cnn and vh1 to be specific. Be sure to read the fine print...

morning in waterford wi

A nice 45 minute drive to waterford wi takes me to Studio 107, Mel's gorgeous studio. Light pours in, photographs are everywhere, stacks of beautiful art books and great company.
Check out her space, love the cork floor! ... note- I only photographed a corner of the space. (Another post will have to include her extensive collection - most acquired online!)

According to Heather Hambrect of (h(om)e) - sprinter is the "wombo combo of spring overcoming winter." I think the 4 feet of solid ice sprinkled with fresh snow has made a permanent impact on our psyche here in Wisconsin...

Let me tell you about Heather... Her/(h(om)e) handmade leather bags are amazing! I have two and recommend them to all... she makes beautiful messenger bags, laptop bags, purses, clutches, wallets... the list goes on and on. She is incredibly talented and her bags are as much about function as they are about fashion. You can find (h(om)e) bags in Chicago at City Soles, in Milwaukee at shoo or by visiting the (h(om)e) studio.

I was so lucky to catch up with my buddy Mark Silva today. Mark lives in Portland,OR "with his beautiful fiance, a weiner dog (who is on ebay for free) and is desperately in search of a new boxer." These are a few of Mark's pictures he has shared with me... I love the dalmation/pit bull... eye contact!

I had the pleasure of meeting Catherine during her short visit to Milwaukee. I find her work to be a breath of fresh air in its playful nature and sophisticated sound. I spent an hour on her site on my first visit. enjoy! IFO is a must view today.

Catherine Ross works in video and photography, framing gestures of performances that often go unnoticed in their original context. Isolating the movements of humans and/or objects, her videos create new musical sequences that reveal an inseparable relationship between motion and sound. Here she finds that movement reveals an inherent awkwardness, a humor that echoes our own vulnerabilities. Her work has been presented in exhibitions and festivals internationally, including venues in Brazil, Finland, Ireland, England, Canada and the United States. Ross attended the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture in 2002, the Atlantic Center for the Arts in 2003 and received a 2005-06 residency from The Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation. Ross was recently awarded "Best International Short Award" at the 2006 Darklight Festival (Dublin, IRELAND). She received her BA in studio art from Dartmouth College in 1994. Catherine Ross lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

The Coalition of Photographic Arts (CoPA) is proud to present its Inaugural Juried Exhibition at the Walker’s Point Center for the Arts. The mission of the Coalition of Photographic Arts is to develop appreciation, promote growth and support the creation of photography in the Greater Milwaukee Region. Our goal is to cultivate awareness of contemporary photography.

With this show, and the help of our juror Brian Ulrich, we are recognizing the wealth of talent and creative pursuits of photographers in our tri-state area. We are pleased to present a wide range of contemporary photography being made in Minnesota, Illinois and Wisconsin. We are encouraged by the tremendous response in the number of submissions received. This is further evidence that the community welcomes CoPA’s presence and mission.

Our choice to have Brian Ulrich serve as juror of CoPA’s Inaugural Juried Exhibition was an easy one due to his professional standing not only as an artist but also as an educator. Most of all we were inspired by his advocacy for community among contemporary photographers, particularly in the Midwest.

Our thanks go out to all submitting artists enabling us to present an exhibition of this caliber. We are also grateful to the Walker’s Point Center for the Arts, in partnering with us by allowing us to use their gallery for this exciting event. We are very thankful to Brian Ulrich for lending his vision and support to make this inaugural exhibition a success.

Dean Jensen Gallery will be showing my work at Art Chicago this coming weekend. April 26-30. I plan on attending the fair this Friday and possibly Saturday. So much work to see...


the Verisonfest Photographic Invitational curated by Jon Gitelson and Brian Ulrich at the Zhou B Center, 1029 W. 35th St, promises to be a great show... including works by Amy Stein, Zoe Strauss, Jason Lazarus, Bill Sullivan and Todd Deutsch.... the reception for the show is Saturday night 7-9pm.

april showers? ... april snow storm

Avoiding the blizzard outside and waiting for my print to finish... remembering the rainy evening of march 31 and the photocentric 2007 opening...




My brother took these pics of the opening two weeks ago. The cute guy out of focus in the first shot is my husband Cain. You can make out Jon Gitelson's car portrait in the third image and my two pieces were behind his. We had a lot of fun at the opening. 700+ people in attendance made it a bit challenging to see the artwork but made for great company.
