This is one of the finished images to appear in the motion sensitive light boxes. Jason and I had a long day fighting (him) trying to understand (me) code. We have made great progress and I am really excited about these pieces! The announcement for the show was just posted by the Milwaukee Gallery Night and Day association:

Re: Current: New Work by Sonja Thomsen. The gallery is pleased to present the first solo exhibition by Sonja Thomsen, a Milwaukee photographer whose work has been shown widely throughout the United States as well as abroad. Thomsen describes her newest body of work as an exploration of cyclical time. Through photography and installation, she says, she intends for her work to engage the relationship between "instant and existence." Much of the exhibition's work was produced at the Hermitage Artist Retreat on the Manasota Key in Florida where Thomsen was an artist in residence in 2008. Friday APRIL 16: 10am to 9pm; Saturday APRIL 17: 10am to 4pm

working out the details...
Down to the wire preparing for the show. I can't believe its March. The Wisconsin tundra is slowly thawing, you can even feel a bit of mositure in the air. Jason and I have made progress with the motion sensitive light boxes. Thought I would share some of our early results...
The sensor is on the bread board to the left of the box and the hand is activating the sensor to engage the dimming of the light.
The video is a detail of the box, the LEDs in this take are blinking, not being controlled by the sensor...

1/15/10 Milwaukee Gallery Night...

Wendel White & sonja
Put Dean Jensen Gallery on your list for Friday night.
Gallery Night and Day January 15 & 16, 2010 - Friday: 6 to 9 pm; Saturday: 10 am to 4 pm
DEAN JENSEN GALLERY – (759 N. Water St. - 414.278.7100 - www.deanjensengallery.com) Big Bangs/Small Bucks II: An Exhibition for the Post-Bust Economy. The gallery is producing the second edition of an invitational exhibition introduced a year ago, a sprawling show by 30 contemporary artists and about 100 works, including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, graphic media and installations. The artists were chosen from throughout the US as well as abroad and several of them have substantial exhibition and museum credits. The surprise is that none of the exhibition works will be higher in price than $900 and some will be as low as $100 or $200. A completely illustrated catalogue for the show can be accessed by going to the gallery's Web site, deanjensengallery.com. Exhibition December 11, 2009 through January 30, 2010.

Big Bangs/Small Bucks II: Present and Past Tenses
Friday, December 11, 2009 - January 30, 2010
...
Thus, you’ll find the first son of that show on our walls and floors here from the night of Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, through Jan. 30, 2010.
With only a few modifications, the template used to produce the first exhibition was reused in the making of Big Bangs/Small Bucks II: An Exhibition for the Post-Bust Economy. In all, the exhibition will include about one-hundred objects in all media, and there will again be about thirty artists represented, many of them from Wisconsin, but others from across the US as well as from abroad. While $750 was the top price on any of the works offered in last year’s Big Bangs, this time around we’ve raised the ceiling to $900,although there will still be pieces available for as little as $100 or $200.
Some of the artists who were in the first show will be back again, but there will also be a lot of newcomers, some of whom already have imposing credentials in the art world, others who are just starting to phosphoresce. We wish we could have re-invited all the artists from the first show, of course, but it seemed to us that outings like this are worth re-presenting only if the mixes are refreshed from year to year. Look for some of the artists who were in Big Bangs I to be back again for Big Bangs III or IV.
Big Bangs/Small Bucks II will include painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, graphic media and installation works.
We’re certain about at least two matters:
+ Among those who take in the show, there will be differences of opinion about which of the one-hundred objects sound the biggest bangs.
+ Whether a visitor is only a casual looker, a beginning collector or a connoisseur, she or he will leave the exhibition with this impression: Art, real art, isn’t defined by the number of zeroes that follow the ordinal number on the pricetag.
