ink on paper (2) ...

Recently learned of this review of the Current Tendencies show at the Haggerty in the July/August issue of ART PAPERS. I find it interesting that Watson assumes that all eight of us that are educators are "artists with health benefits and retirement accounts." I know I speak for myself and fellow adjunct faculty when I say.... "come again?!?" Despite this generalization, I was honored to have been mentioned in the review.

Talk at Haggerty Art Museum...

For the very few of you whom may have time on Wednesday April 8th at 11:30am, I will be giving an informal talk about my work in the Current Tendencies: Ten Artists From Wisconsin

Lunchtime Learning with Sonja Thomsen.
Wednesday, April 8, 2009
11:30 a.m.
(in conjunction with Current Tendencies)
Free and open to the public

The show has not been reviewed as of yet but Mike Brenner did write a short recap of the show for The Decider.
Photographer and installation artist Sonja Thomsen explores the fragility of memory and experience in her piece "Lacuna." Serene images that capture private, contemplative moments in time are systematically scattered on the gallery walls. Several of the images are presented in stacks; like stories told again and again, the images start to fade and blur until, at the very bottom of the pile, only a blank piece of paper remains. - Mike Brenner for The Decider

In addition to these installations, one gallery will be dedicated to the work of the late Peter Bardy, a self-taught artist from Milwaukee who transformed his home into a private world. This will be the first ever exhibition of Bardy’s sculptural work which was largely unknown until his untimely death earlier this year.
