Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia

There was SO much to take in at the Reina Sofia. Standing in front of Picasso's Guernica was memorable, pinch me I'm here moment.

Below are a few other highlights of my brief visit to the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia...

Street photography by Francesc Catala-Roca at Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia

Beautiful collages by Carles Camps i Mundo from 1972 from the exhibition:
The Pamplona Encounters 1972. The End of the Party for Experimental Art . Thought you would be interested John Mann.

John Cage poster from Pamplona Encounters.

I loved the installation by
Joëlle Tuerlinckx, titled Crystal Times. Reflexión sin sol / Proyecciones sin objeto. This is just a piece of one of the rooms. Three rooms were filled to the brim and the rest of the exhibition space left empty but for a small model diorama of the space and the natural light of the gallery windows. My kind of emptiness.
*11/3/09 - today's NYT had an article on Joelle Tuerlinckx's installation at
the Palacio de Cristal!

Rainbow over Queens

Lovely day in the city. Met 8 artists (Justine is one of them)
participating in the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC). It was a full day of studio visits with photography students (undergrad and grad) from Syracuse University led by Doug Dubois.  I was fortunate to tag along with the group and hear from each artist about their work and experience navigating their careers.  It was a good day and I have many pictures of the artists to post... stay tuned.

Janine Antoni

Saw a lot of work in Chelsea today. Most memorable was this piece by
Janine Antoni. It is beautifully rendered at an enormous scale. At
once it referenced work by Frida Kahlo and Laurie Simmons as well as
images of Our Lady of Guadalupe. A portrait of the contemporary woman/
mother/ lover/ feminist marytr?
