lost and found...

scanning, printing, scanning, printing... and freezing. My studio is in that spring chill phase. The winter heat has been turned off because of our few warm days in Milwaukee. Now the wind off the lake blows through the three feet of cream city brick and chill my nose, fingers and feet. Maybe need to look into a space heater...

As I was scanning today, looking through old and new negatives I came across this image of Mathew from 2005... not sure why I never printed it before - i really like it. I remember thinking about Sally Mann's image of Emmett when Mathew outstretched his arms as he was walking out of the lake.

Ann Chamberlain 1951- 2008

"Making work that goes in public space is an interesting process for me because I know that the work ... has a life of its own beyond me ... ."

Ann passed away on April 18. She was an incredible woman. A generous professor and inspirational artist. Her public art works are a testament to her gift.

Must see in Milwaukee...

Busy night tonight... off to see as much work as possible. Spring Gallery Night in Milwaukee is always one of the best art events in town. There are many openings tonight but the one not to miss is the 2008 MARNmentors Show Two at Hotcakes Gallery.
Show Opens tonight from 6-9pm and runs April 18 - May 04. Gallery is open TH-SU 12-5PM

I am really excited to see my good friend Mel Trittin's work at Hotcakes Gallery. Most of you probably know her as cigarettesandpurity She will be showing her new series "Promised Land." From Mel's statement about the work...
I’m interested in what I perceive as contradictions.

When I learned of a paintball park called Promised Land, which advertised itself as “America’s best Christian paintball park,” my upbringing by a pacifist minister compelled me to investigate.

It is a great series of work and it is Mel's first Milwaukee exhibition, I look forward to it!
